📣 LISTEN IN!

This month we’re highlighting an Alice In Wonderland inspired book, The Lost Wonderland Diaries by J. Scott Savage. The story unfolds with our main characters Celia and Tyrus discovering Lewis Carroll’s lost diaries which tell the secret, but true account of Lewis traveling to the world of Wonderland. Celia and Tyrus fall into a portal where they are transported into the same world as Alice and the Mad Hatter. A darkness has taken over the land and the characters are not the same as Tyrus remembers reading. Together, they solve puzzles and riddles in an attempt to find their way out of Wonderland, but they must first out-smart the Queen of Hearts who will stop at nothing to capture them.

Not only is this book packed with ADVENTURE, CURIOSITY, and CREATIVITY, but the main character, Celia, also has dyslexia! Savage does a wonderful job of showing what Celia’s life is like with dyslexia. It isn’t just mentioned once or twice, it is a part of who she is. Savage himself has ADHD and always tries to include a character who learns differently or has a physical disability because he believes in inclusion.

FUN FACT: MFM’s very own Heather Brand advised Savage on the accuracy of his portrayal of Celia’s dyslexia!

We have to agree that our sessions are pretty fun!

🔁 WORTHY REPEATS

Math screeners and testing and diagnosis, oh my!

Are you looking for advice on when it might be time for a dyscalculia screener? If you answered YES then you’re in the right place. Dr. Anneke Schreuder created this dyscalculia screener as an instrument to assist parents and educators in quickly determining whether a more extensive assessment is needed.

Dr. Schreuder has essentially taken the research about dyscalculia, which may be cumbersome for most parents and educators to sort through, and translated it into simple tools for anyone with a concern about their student’s math learning.

Find more about Dr. Schreuder’s dyscalculia screeners here.
